Parental controls with a PIN

Lock the categories you do not want children to see behind a 4-digit PIN. It is in the Basic version, and on the phone too. Here is how to turn it on, how it unlocks and, plainly, what it covers and what it does not.

How to turn it on

  1. Open "Parental controls"

    Under Settings → Parental controls.

  2. Create a PIN

Type a 4-digit PIN ("Create a 4-digit PIN") and repeat it ("Re-enter the PIN"). If they do not match, it tells you and you start again.

  3. Check what has been locked

AIDO TV locks from the start the categories whose name looks adult, with words such as "xxx", "adult" or "18+". You can then change it as you like.

Choosing what is locked

On the same screen, under "Locked categories", you will see every category in your list. Press one to lock or unlock it (locked ones carry a padlock 🔒). Channels, films and series share category names: locking a name hides every group called that, whether it is live TV or films and series.

Hide, or show with a padlock

  • "Hide locked categories" on (the usual): locked categories disappear from the channel list.
  • Off: they stay in view with a padlock, and entering one asks for the PIN.
  • In Movies and Series locked categories are always hidden, with either option.

How it unlocks (and re-locks)

Enter the PIN when you open a locked category (with the padlock in view) or under Settings → Parental controls ("Enter PIN"). It stays unlocked only while the app remains open: as soon as you leave it (home button, switching apps, screen off) or it closes, it locks again on its own. So nobody can reopen the app hours later on an unlocked session.

Protecting Settings

Turn on "Require PIN for Settings" so nobody can change the locks, remove the PIN or modify your lists without knowing it. It is off by default.

Changing or removing the PIN

In the same menu, "Change PIN" asks for a new one and for you to repeat it. "Turn off parental controls" removes the PIN and every lock.

What it covers and what it does not

WhereCategory lock
Channel list and categoriesYes: hidden or shown with a padlock, as you choose.
Movies and seriesYes: locked categories are hidden.
SearchNo: it searches the whole catalogue, locked categories included.
TV Guide (grid, Premium)No: it shows every channel.

Important: the PIN is a local barrier meant to stop children from stumbling on content, not a cryptographic security measure. If you need to be sure, the most reliable way is for the list children use not to include those categories.

If you forget the PIN

The app cannot recover it. The way out is to clear AIDO TV's data from Android's settings (Apps → AIDO TV → Clear data), and that removes your lists too. That is why it is wise to make a backup first under Settings → Manage lists → Backup, above all if you turn on "Require PIN for Settings".

Frequently asked questions

Are parental controls free?

Yes, they are in the Basic version, on Android phones too.

How many digits is the PIN?

4 digits.

Does it lock again after a restart?

Yes, and also as soon as you leave the app, turn the screen off or switch apps.

Can I lock just one channel?

The lock is by category, not by channel. To hide individual channels you can use "Manage channels", but it does not ask for a PIN.

Are there children's profiles?

No: there is one PIN and the categories you lock, for everyone who uses the app.

Does it include channels?

No. AIDO TV is a neutral player: it does not include, host, sell or recommend any channel or list. Read the content notice.
