The programme guide (EPG) in AIDO TV

What is on now and what comes next, inside the player and in a full grid lined up against the clock. Here is how it works, what is free, what is Premium and what to do when a channel has no guide.

Free: "now and next" on every channel

The Basic version already shows the schedule of every channel that has a guide:

  • In the channel list, next to each channel: the current programme, its times, a progress bar and the next one.
  • When you change channel, the information bar with what is on now.
  • The synopsis, when your guide includes one, and the channel's upcoming programmes (press Right in the list).

Premium: the full grid

In the main menu, TV Guide opens a grid with all your channels lined up against the clock:

  • Each channel is a row and each programme a cell whose width is proportional to its length, so you see at a glance what starts when.
  • It shows 6 hours from the current half hour. The programme in progress is highlighted.
  • Selecting a cell shows a strip at the bottom with the title, the channel, the times and the length.
  • With OK you jump straight to watching that channel live.
  • Channels with no guide data show "No guide". The channel order is your list's own; we never change it.

If you are on the Basic version and open "TV Guide", you will see the Premium screen: for the first 7 days you have it included, no card needed.

Where the guide comes from

The guide is not inside the list: it is a separate file in XMLTV format (it also accepts .xml.gz, compressed). AIDO TV gets it like this:

  • If your provider gave you an account with username and password: it takes the guide from the server itself, if it offers one.
  • If it gave you just a list address: it uses the guide (EPG) address you enter when adding it. If you leave it empty, it uses the one the list itself declares in its header, if it does.

To understand the format and how list and guide are linked, read what M3U, Xtream and EPG are.

Fast and offline

  • It is stored on your device. Once processed, the guide opens instantly and works without internet.
  • It updates itself. When you open the app it only downloads the guide again if there is none stored, if it does not cover the next 6 hours or if it is older than 12. Once a day, around 4 a.m., it also refreshes in the background when there is a connection. If the server says it has not changed, it is not downloaded again.
  • A failure does not wipe it. If an update fails, you keep the guide you already had.
  • The first time can take a while. A large guide needs some time to be processed; after that it does not.
  • It keeps programmes up to 48 hours back (for catch-up) and 36 hours ahead.

Guide filled in from your other lists (Premium)

If you keep several lists and the active one has channels without a guide, AIDO TV can fill those gaps from the guide of your other lists, matching channels by name. So a channel with no schedule in one list can show it thanks to another.

If a channel is missing programmes

What you seeLikeliest cause and what to do
Some channels show "No guide", others are fineThe channel's identifier in the list does not match the guide's, or the guide does not include that channel. AIDO TV ignores letter case and suffixes such as @HD, but it cannot guess different identifiers. Try the guide your provider offers, or Premium to fill gaps from your other lists.
No channel has a guideThere is no guide address: add it when editing the list, or ask your provider for it.
The guide is off by some hoursThe provider publishes the guide in another time zone. It is a problem with the guide at source: tell your provider.
You just added the list and it does not show yetThe first download of a large guide takes a while. Wait a few minutes and look again.

Frequently asked questions

Is the guide free?

The "now and next" of each channel is free. The full grid ("TV Guide") and filling gaps from your other lists are Premium, and included in the 7-day trial.

Can I use my own guide?

Yes. When adding a list you can enter the guide (EPG) address in the optional field. It accepts XMLTV files, also gzip-compressed.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The guide is stored on the device, so it opens instantly and can be read without internet.

How many hours does the grid show?

Six hours from the current half hour. The guide keeps 36 hours ahead.

Why does a channel say "No guide"?

Because the guide has no data for that channel's identifier. See the table in "If a channel is missing programmes".

Does it include channels?

No. AIDO TV is a neutral player: it does not include, host, sell or recommend any channel, list or guide. Read the content notice.
